On the Eve of Thanksgiving 2020, I’m sitting with tremendous sadness, feeling pain sear my heart once again. A pain that pierces a mother’s heart when she stands helplessly at the side of her suffering child. In this place the enemy comes mocking my faith, taunting my tears and spitting out “where is God’s goodness now?” I faltered, stumbled and fell. But though wounded, with all my strength, I testify of God’s goodness, faithfulness and steadfast love. Celebrating Thanksgiving when your heart is breaking means believing in God’s goodness when you can’t see it. Will you join me today in praising and exalting the Greatness of God? I’m choosing to focus on God’s goodness all around me and offer the sacrifice of praise to Him for His Presence in times of heartache.

No Scar?
by Amy Carmichael
Hast thou no scar?
No hidden scar on foot, or side, or hand?
I hear thee sung as mighty in the land;
I hear them hail thy bright, ascendant star,
Hast thou no scar?
Hast thou no wound?
Yet, I was wounded by the archers; spent,
Leaned me against a tree to die; and rent
By ravening beasts that compassed me, I swooned.
Hast thou no wound?
No wound? No Scar?
Yet, as the Master shall the servant be,
And pierced are the feet that follow Me.
But thine are whole; can he have followed far
Who hast no wound or scar?

Kim you’re a sweetheart, no worries, I took it in a kind way, I actually laugh when I’m upset sometimes because I’m uncomfortable, so that’s how I received it. But so kind of you to clarify!

Donna, I am truly sorry you are in a sorrowing season right now. What you said here: “Celebrating Thanksgiving when your heart is breaking means believing in God’s goodness when you can’t see it.” really resonated with my heart. God has shown me that when we choose to praise Him in the painful seasons, it’s a sacrifice of praise, borne of believing He has a plan, He is trustworthy and faithful, and He is able to bring us through, even when we may not see His hand in the moment. Sending you a hug, friend.
Donna says
Jeanne, thank you so much for your kind words, offering a sacrifice of praise is not always easy, but God is faithful and continues to comfort and strengthen me. Hugs are always welcome! I appreciate you, dear Friend!

Oh, that Amy Carmichael poem!
Somehow we think we need to emerge from this life unscathed, and we go to great lengths to numb ourselves, to cover our scars.
Donna says
Hi Michele! I love that Amy Carmichael poem! So true, why do we think we will not encounter suffering, or that suffering will not leave scars? Praise God He redeems all of our suffering for our good and His glory! Thanks for stopping by!!
