In the times in which we live, trusting God in uncertainty presents a challenge for most of us. Recently reading in the Book of Proverbs, verse 27:1 seemed especially appropriate for the challenges we face:
“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
We become comfortable with our expectations of tomorrow, next week, next month, even next year. Yet James reminds us we actually have little control over our plans:
“Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
Trusting God in uncertainty not only pushes us beyond our comfort zones but requires us to view God from a different perspective.
Extraordinary God
Join me and Melanie Redd in an interview we did awhile back on finding Hope, Peace and Rest, as we learn to trust God in uncertainty.
As a testimony to God’s amazing faithfulness and omniscience, I recorded this interview immediately following a biopsy, sitting with my own personal uncertainty.
Additionally, Melanie planned to share this video with her “Ordinary Women, Extraordinary God” audience, but shortly after our interview, God moved her out of that ministry leaving the video somewhat in limbo.
She graciously gifted me a copy of the video to share at my discretion, and as I prayed about when to share it, world events transpired in such a way as to shout reminders of uncertainty, chaos, and anxiety.
And so, perhaps for such a time as this, I share a word of encouragement with you as you seek an anchor in troubled times.

Donna, what a wonderful experience to meet you today! You are so warm and gracious and wise. But that, we already knew. I resonate with what you’re saying … it has been in those hardest, uncertain places that my relationship with God has both put down roots and taken wings. How grateful that He specializes in redeeming those raw seasons.

Linda, I am blessed by your kind and encouraging words! Isn’t it so like God to bring such beauty and intimacy from some of our hardest experiences?
