Serenity Self Care
Welcome to the last Serenity Saturday Self Care of the summer! Can you believe summer is all but over and fall stands waiting in the wings? If you find yourself frazzled after getting kids back to school, be sure to take some time over this long holiday weekend to recharge! I think of labor day weekend as a transition into a new season. The autumnal equinox “officially” arrives September 20th, and we often continue with warmer weather even past that. Still, for me Labor Day signals a change.
When faced with a transition from one season to the next, one season of life to the next or one personal growth period to the next, I like to journal before moving on. Too often we rush from one thing to the next, without celebrating where we came from. So this Serenity Saturday, I’d like to share some journal prompts to move us from summer to begin to welcome the new season of autumn. Make time to sit with your favorite beverage, in a comfy, cozy spot, (outside preferably) and begin to reminisce about your summer experiences. Welcome all memories, don’t select just the fond ones; hey all have stories to tell and we grow through all of them.
Serenity Summer Journal Prompts
Once you’ve allowed time to savor your summer memories, get out your journal, color pens or pencils, stickers, whatever you enjoy using and try a few of these journal prompts. Have fun and treat each memory like an old friend stopping by for a visit; laugh, cry, smile and most of all celebrate!

Elderly Couple Fun
A man and a woman were married for 60 years. They shared everything, they talked about everything. They kept no secrets from each other, except the old woman had a shoe box on a shelf at the top of her closet. She warned her husband never to look in it or ask her about it.
For all of those years, he never thought about the shoe box or asked about it. But one day the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said she would not recover. Trying to sort out her affairs, he took the shoe box down and brought it to his wife’s beside. She agreed that it was time that he know what was in the box. When he opened it, he found two crocheted dolls and a stack of money totaling $95,000.
He asked her about the contents. “When we were married, ” she said, “My grandmother told me the secret of a happy marriage was never to argue.” “She told me if ever I got angry with you, I should keep quiet and crochet a doll.”
The little old man was so moved, he fought back tears. Only two precious dolls were in the box. She had been angry with him only two times in all of those years. He almost burst with happiness. “Honey”, he said, “That explains the dolls, but what about all of this money? Where did that come from?”
“Oh”, she said, “That’s the money I made selling the dolls.”

Spiritual Transformation Produces Extravagant Love
What comes to your mind when you hear the word, “Extravagant Love?” Do visions of expensive gifts, candlelight dinners or luxury vacations come to mind? Some would argue extravagance of any type is wasteful. Let me put this in context for you. What comes to mind when you think of “Extravagant Love” as it relates to how you love Christ? Only spiritual transformation produces extravagant love for Christ.
